"The big dog was an Irish setter, Topsy, that gramp brought home when your mother was still in a high chair. I remember the night he brought her home. The smaller white dog was a wire-haired fox terrier. I named it Toby. He eventually confounded me by having a batch of pups. Four of us are holding them in the picture. That and the big bouquet of flowers suggests Mother's Day, but I have a strong association of those pups being born on the Fourth of July in 1928." "I wish we had a picture of that car that's barely visible behing the trellis. I'm sure it was the 16 cylinder Cadillac that Gramp bought second hand, It was a show piece, with flower vases in the back seat and a hand microphone to talk to the driver in the front, but it must have been a monster to maintain. We did not keep it very long." |
